As we approach the end of the year, it’s essential to take a moment to reflect, recharge, and set positive intentions for the year to come. For the last several years, I have committed to spending the final week of the year curating my intentions for the new year and thoughtfully reflecting on previous goals. Ending the year with rest and ritual can be a powerful way to create a sense of closure and welcome the possibilities that the future holds.
I wanted to share some of my favorite year-end Rituals
- Gratitude Journaling: Take time to reflect on the past year by keeping a gratitude journal. Write down moments, experiences, and people you’re thankful for. I have talked a lot about gratitude journaling in previous posts but that’s because its such a powerful tool. This ritual not only acknowledges the positive aspects of your life but also sets a tone of appreciation for what’s to come.
- Cleansing and Decluttering: Clearing physical and mental clutter can be transformative. Spend a day decluttering your living space and consider it a symbolic act of letting go of the old to make space for the new. Donate items you no longer need and create an environment that supports your well-being.
- Vision Board Creation: Craft a vision board for the upcoming year. Collect images, quotes, and symbols that represent your goals and aspirations. This visual representation serves as a powerful reminder of your intentions, keeping you focused and motivated throughout the year.
- Organize a Planner: Find a planner that really inspires you. I, personally, like the DragonTree Dreambook and Planner but feel free to explore any planner that lights you up. Start filling in your goals and aspirations for the year. Giving yourself a timeline to accomplish a goal makes it much more tangible.

Let’s talk about Intentional Rest. It’s easy to say that you’re going to get 6-8 hours of rest each night but how often do we stick to a really intentional regimen of rest? Its so easy to get distracted on socials or binging tv shows and next thing you know you’ve stayed up too late and you’ve set yourself up for an exhausting next day.
There are some things you can do to help yourself wind down and mindfully craft space for rest into your daily experience. Here are a few of my personal favorites:
- Digital Detox: Allocate specific times for digital detox during the holiday season. Disconnecting from screens allows you to be present with loved ones and provides a mental break from the constant influx of information. Try this in the evenings an hour or so before you go to bed.
- Mindful Breathing and Meditation: Incorporate short mindfulness exercises into your daily routine. Practice deep breathing or meditation to calm the mind, reduce stress, and foster a sense of inner peace.
- Nature Walks: Spend time outdoors and connect with nature. Whether it’s a scenic hike, a walk in the park, or simply sitting in a garden, being in nature has rejuvenating effects on both the body and mind. Winter seasons in nature tend to invoke a different sort of introspection and invite fresh thoughts and ideas to flow.
As you find ways to incorporate these suggestions into your daily routine, you’ll find that you become much more aligned in manifesting a healthy lifestyle versus setting resolutions that fizzle out within the first few months of the year.
